Hello, Thank you for STunnel. I've been using BLAT command line mailer for years at a client's site to send system status messages to me. Recently the client switched to ATT's SSL protected email. Blat does not support SSL. STunnel to the rescue. I started with ver. 4.39. I wanted to start and stop the STUNNEL service via script commands but found that the -quiet switch did not suppress the OK message box consistently. This naturally stopped the script from continuing. This was true of both the -start and -stop functions but was more of an issue with the -stop function. While looking through the documentation to see what I might be doing wrong, I saw that 4.40 was released (the day after I downloaded 4.39). 4.40 has the same issue with the -quiet switch but the addition of the -exit switch allowed me to start and stop STUNNEL without running it as a service. Great timing! I had tested my scripts using a Windows 7 machine where they functioned as expected. It was only when I moved them to the client's Windows 2000 Server (SP4) that this issue appeared.

These follow the same conventions as the official RPMS:- By default log to authpriv instead of daemon facility- sample config file adjusted.- I also set the /etc/init.d/stunnel init script executable Binaries were compiled with gcc 4.4. Should work on similar systems (RHEL 5, Scientific Linux 5, Oracle Linux 5 or later). You should be able to build your own binaries starting from the source rpm. misconfiguration of transparent proxy

Hi all, is there any way to use stunnel to proxy a connection without using encryption? I have an application that is listening on 0.0.0.0:port but which refuses connection if not coming from localhost:port and that application is reachable only with telnet, with no encryption. Dear Users, I have just added a new Windows GUI menu to save peer certificate chains. Please to give it a try and let me know if there are any issues, so I can fix them in the final stunnel 4.40: ftp://ftp.stunnel.org/stunnel/stunnel-4.40b1-installer.exe Another useful function would probably be a replacement for Unix c_rehash script. 8-) I also appreciate your comments are suggestions related to the new functionality. problem running on Mac OS X

Hi there. I've built stunnel on the Mac (including the patch for str.c) and have problem when I run it. Whenever it gets a request on one side (from a browser), I see the following in the log. Hi, Is it possible to run STunnel on my server to lisen to IP1 on port 443 And to have IIS listen to IP2 on port 443? Should I make changes in the config file? Dear Users, I have just released version 4.37 of stunnel. This release is mainly intended to fix bugs and portability issues introduced in versions 4.35 and 4.36. This version also provides new security defaults, updated to better match current best practices in cryptographic applications. The ChangeLog entry: Version 4.37, 2011.06.17, urgency: MEDIUM: * New features - Client-side SNI implemented (RFC 3546 section 3.1). - Default "ciphers" changed from the OpenSSL default to a more secure and faster "RC4-MD5:HIGH:!aNULL:!SSLv2". A paranoid (and usually slower) setting would be "HIGH:!aNULL:! SSLv2". - Recommended "options = NO_SSLv2" added to the sample stunnel.conf file. - Default client method upgraded from SSLv3 to TLSv1. This suspiciously sounds like http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=626856, and according to the changelog there is already a fix in the unreleased 4.37 version for this. - Could this in fact be the same bug? - Is the patch available somewhere? Login log-level when verify=3

Hi everyone, I'm happily using stunnel for almost 8 years now :) I recently began to use verify=3 and i'm quite disappointed that a succesful access does not appear in the logs unless they are set to quite verbose. To be precise, i think it makes sense, for paranoid setups to keep track of successful accesses to. I'd suggest logging remote end's DN for log level =3 or 4. As there were some improvements lately in verify=3, i hope you could integrate this too. Thanks

STUNNEL 4.36 Windows - https - 404 Error

Whenever I connect to "http://localhost:20010" I get the proper https repsonse from server "https://sslwebsite.xxxx.com". But the moment I add, "https://localhost:20010/someprogrampath", I get "404 File Not found error". But if I access, " https://sslwebsite.xxxx.com/someprogrampath" directly it WORKS. Any ideas? stunnel via xinetd and rsync problem

Hi, I am having problems getting stunnel to tunnel rsync connections when stunnel is called from xinetd. I can get it to work fine when stunnel is run as a daemon, but when I try rsyncing from the client via xinetd, rsync complains: [root@lambeth ~]# rsync -av --port 2873 192.168.10.130::sanbackup . rsync: server sent "2011.06.06 06:13:56 LOG7[18335:3086816976]: Snagged 64 random bytes from /dev/urandom" rather than greeting rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1296) [receiver=2.6.8] [root@lambeth ~]# It appears that rsync on the client is getting the output of /dev/urandom, and the connection is abandoned. Hello, I am currently using your older product, SSLPROXY 1.1.2, and it is working fine, but I was looking to move to your STUNNEL 4.36. I cannot get the product to work, but that is probably because I have got the 'stunnel.conf' set up improperly. Is it at all possible to send me what the config file should look like if I supplied you with the parameters that I am using successfully with your older product. Current parameters on first session: sslproxy -L192.168.1.1 -l1024 -R192.168.1.2 -r24 -s -c quadCert.pem Current parameters on second session: sslproxy -L192.168.1.1 -l1024 -R192.168.0.2 -r23 -s -c quadCert.pem I would appreciate any help you can give me, and thank you for your time in this matter. Slow connection to remote stunnel

Hi, I'm using stunnel 4.36 on Linux to secure Samba SWAT. When I connect directly to the remot stunnel port with my browser on Windows 7 (https://swat-server:stunnel-port), I get a long delay after entering my credentials (about 60 seconds or so). This seems to be known issue (for instance see "You will be prompted for the Linux root user username and password. There will be a delay of about 60 to 75 seconds with each login."[1].) I did a Wireshark trace and it seems that the server simply does not respond during that time. But when I connect to the local stunnel client (http://localhost:stunnel-port), the SWAT page displays immediately. Is that "normal". How can I get the same speed without a stunnel client? stunnel cannot exec SWAT

Hi, I'm successfully securing Samba SWAT on Linux with stunnel 4.36. The connection goes like this: browser -> http://localhost:901 (stunnel) -> remote:50901 (xinetd) -> stunnel -> remote:901 (xinetd) -> SWAT. Now I want to remove the xinetd swat file and have stunnel directly call swat: browser -> http://localhost:901 (stunnel) -> remote:50901 (xinetd) -> stunnel -> SWAT I do this by commenting out "connect" and setting exec and execargs (as documented in stunnel's man page): #connect = 901 exec = /usr/sbin/swat execargs = swat Now I get a "Connection closed by remote server" in my browser.
